1. What inspired you to create "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula," and how did the Hammer classic film influence the song?

I was inspired by the old Hammer films and by a band where epic lyrics were the norm.
2. Can you tell us more about your decision to embark on a solo career after your time with Battlemace?

I embarked on a solo career because after we parted ways, all I really had was my laptop and my guitars but I wanted to show them what's what.
3. How did the process of DIY recording impact the final sound of your single?

DIY recording created a lot of limitations. There was only so much I could do as far as the midi stuff and I couldn't record a full drum kit. Also, a really gothic intro was planned but scrapped.
4. What challenges did you face using basic tools like Garageband and a single snare drum in your recording process?

Part of the challenge was just mustering up the confidence that I could do it, not to mention the fact that there were constant problems with my computer erring out.

5. How did you approach writing and composing "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula"? What was your creative process like?

It went through several drafts and part of it was not wanting it to be another "I chug on the chords while the drummer follows along on a pedestrian 4/4 beat.
 

6. What emotions and themes are you trying to convey through this song?

The song is supposed to be a kind of thrill-ride. Not supposed to be taken that seriously but still enough to feel like you're on an adventure.
7. How does "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula" differ from the music you created with Battlemace?

This song is different from what we created in Battlemace in that it has more of a nimble beat. It's not just "here's another 4/4."
8. What was it like to record with "whatever guitars & basses you had lying around"? Did any particular instrument hold special significance?

It was fun recording with my collection but it wasn't really anything out of the ordinary.
9. How has your music evolved since leaving Battlemace, and where do you see it going in the future?

My music has evolved in that I feel I can anything I want and don't have to please those posturing egotists.

10. Can you describe the kind of musical adventure you want listeners to experience with this single?

I want listeners to feel like they're up against Dracula but have what it takes to take him down.
11. How do you feel about the reception of "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula" since its release?

It's been interesting since it's a bit low on streams but most people think it's a good song.
12. What advice would you give to other musicians looking to pursue DIY recording methods?

I would tell other DIY musicians to not get discouraged.
