Interview Eisige Venen

Welcome to this exclusive interview with Eisige Venen, a band that emerged in 2020 as a one-man project founded by guitarist and keyboardist Marc Williams, who was previously a member of the progressive death metal band Ba’alzamon. With two demos and two singles under their belt, Eisige Venen quickly garnered attention and established a unique sound that blends atmospheric black metal with synthesizers that echo the style of Peter Tagtgren's PAIN.

In this interview, we will delve deeper into the origins of the band, their creative process, and what the future holds for Eisige Venen. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this conversation with one of the most exciting new bands on the metal scene.

  1. How did Marc Williams come up with the name Eisige Venen for the band?

I used to play a lot of World of Warcraft. I wanted to use something from the Frost Mage spellbook and I picked “Icy Veins.” I wanted to also pay homage to Germany where I was stationed as a soldier and so I decided on Eisige Venen. It also sounded cold and desolate like my music hopefully conveys. It seemed like a good fit.

  1. What inspired Marc to start a new project after the demise of Ba’alzamon?

I didn’t do much for about 10 years or so after Ba’alzamon broke up. Mostly this was due to my duties as a soldier. Once I was out I played music in some really great bands with great friends such as Nightsphere, Fallen Empire and Frostcrown. I was inspired to start Eisige Venen during the pandemic when there wasn’t much hope of finding members and a one-man project seemed like the best idea.

  1. Can you describe the songwriting process for the band, and how does each member contribute?

Basically I have written all of the songs as of now. Curtis will be contributing lyrics to the upcoming album as well as Chris, who writes his own basslines. I consider that to be a major contribution to the song so he will be getting credit on the album of course.

  1. How does Curtis Fitzpatrick's vocal style complement the band's music?

I believe Curtis is able to produce a unique voice that contributes to the sorrowful feel of the band. My time working with him in Ba’alzamon was always pleasant for the most part and I wanted that particular sound on Eisige Venen’s material. I know what he’s capable of and it was an easy choice for me.

  1. What was the inspiration behind the lyrics for the latest single "Taken by Winter’s Grace"?

I was in Austin, TX during a major freeze that swept over the state. The snow outside, the bitter cold, it all just inspired me and made me fall in love with the death of winter. That’s what the song is about. Loving death but also hoping for a good rebirth.

  1. Can you talk about any upcoming tours or shows for Eisige Venen?

Unfortunately we are in 2 different states and 2 different countries. It won’t be possible for some time if ever.

  1. How important is the live performance aspect of the band's music, and what can fans expect from a live show?

I think a live performance is crucial to a band’s career but I also know that there are a lot of one-person projects out there that are just absolutely amazing. I will still purchase CDs even if I can never watch them perform. Music can move you through the headphones just as much as it can move you in person, depending on the music of course.

  1. What is the significance of incorporating synthesizers into the band's music, and how does it add to the overall sound?

I was inspired by Lustre when I first heard what he’s doing with synthesizers. Not that what I do tries to mimic him but that I became less afraid to express myself through electronics. I have always been a huge fan of bands that incorporated them into their music so I wanted to shoot my shot with it.

  1. How does the band balance the atmospheric and black metal elements in their music?

To be honest, some songs are written on the synthesizer first and some on guitar first. There’s not really any rhyme or reason to how they come out. Ultimately I don’t want to oversaturate either of the two. So I try my best to keep it interesting for the listener.

  1. What are some of the challenges the band faces in being a relatively new group in the music scene?

Being the new kid on the block always sucks. I think maybe some people don’t take you seriously because you haven’t earned your chops yet. Being in what is basically an internet band, it can be difficult for people to take you seriously.

  1. How does the band feel about being compared to other established metal bands, and how do they strive to create their own unique sound?

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that it’s always a complement to be compared to a bigger act. I purposely don’t listen to much metal at all around the times I’m writing music so that I hopefully don’t sound like any bands I like. I listen to more hip-hop and dance music when I’m in my writing phases. You can probably tell in some of the tracks.

  1. Can you describe the band's relationship with their fans, and how do they interact with them?

I try to respond to everyone and share their music as well to our fans. I am always open to chatting and answering questions to anyone.

  1. What is the band's philosophy on creating music, and what message do they hope to convey through their music?

I want my music to invoke certain emotions much like a movie score would. I want sorrow to be that main emotion but not to bring anyone down. I want it to let others know that they aren’t alone and that we all feel these feelings of sadness, betrayal, and hopelessness.

  1. What has been the biggest influence on the band's music and creative direction?

I think the biggest influence has been time. I’m not getting any younger and I felt that it was time to start writing again and take it more seriously than I ever had before. Our direction comes from all of us. I try my hardest to be graceful to my bandmates and accept their ideas. I think that while this first album is mainly my songs, the next album will be a better mix of all of us.

  1. How does the band stay motivated and inspired to create new music and continue to grow as musicians?

I get inspired by the fans and people listening to the music. I also continue to play around on my guitar and learn new things as much as possible. I just love jamming with a drum beat in my DAW sometimes. A few tracks have been born that way.

  1. What are the long-term goals for Eisige Venen, both musically and as a band?

I hope that our music gets out there for a good number of people to hear. I don’t have high hopes of a few 40-somethings getting “famous” but I do think that a good number of people can hear our music and possibly break that barrier to extreme metal. That’s my ultimate goal. I want people who aren’t even into metal to be able to enjoy our sound.

Interview Screams of desolation

Welcome to this exclusive interview with the band Screams of Desolation, a rising star in the world of black and death metal. Formed just a year ago, the band has quickly gained a following with its unique blend of genres, combining the intensity of death metal with the haunting melodies of black metal. The band's founder and main creative force, Vita Mortis, has been a black metal artist since the beginning, but he now sees a different direction for his music. In this interview, we'll dive into the creative process behind Screams of Desolation's music, the inspiration behind Vita Mortis' lyrics, and the band's plans for the future. So, without further ado, let's hear from Vita Mortis himself about his vision for the band's sound, and his passion for music that drives him forward.

  1. Can you tell us about how the band Screams of Desolation came to be formed?

Music gave me purpose in life, before I recorded my first album, I was in a dark place but music was there to express those feelings. I formed the band around the ideas of mental illness and the effects it takes on a person.

  1. How has your experience been as a black metal artist, and what led you to shift towards incorporating death metal elements into your music?

Black metal for me is something spiritual. I will always listen and be part of black metal but recently, I’ve thought about changing that. Death metal comes with heavier guitars and different ideas behind the music for me. The balance between the two styles is where I’m comfortable and where I see screams of desolation moving forward to.

  1. Can you describe the creative process behind your music composition and songwriting?

I usually start with drums. Once I get the drums recorded, I move on to guitars and that’s really where the song is built. Vocals can take me longer sometimes, but it’s always last to be recorded.

  1. What themes and topics do your lyrics explore in your music?

The topics of my life experiences. The topics of death, hate, revenge, and anger.

  1. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your music?

Right off hand, the Swedish Death Metal band Grave has been an influence.  I have a huge love for the early days of deathcore as well. The second wave of black metal influenced me more than anything.

  1. How would you describe your live performances, and what can audiences expect from a Screams of Desolation show?

I don’t ever see myself performing live, I’m much more comfortable recording in my room away from the world.

  1. How has the music scene in South Alabama influenced your music, and what are some challenges you've faced as a musician in the area?

There are almost no metal places down here, it’s basically country music and rap places. So not much opportunity for a one man metal band around here.

  1. Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or releases for Screams of Desolation?

I’m working on a new album that will be out in the next couple months. I’ve released a single along with a lyric video until the album is ready.

  1. How has your music evolved over the past year since the band's formation, and where do you see it heading in the future?

I’ve gained experience with the music world more. I’ve been meeting really cool people who have helped me out tremendously. I see it going into a bigger direction with the new music. This could be the chance to grow as an independent artist in a huge world of music.

  1. Can you share any memorable moments or experiences that have occurred during your time as a musician?

I’ve been thankful to have some great fans. Without the people who listen to my music, I’m nothing and my music can’t grow. So thank you to everyone for the support!

  1. Lastly, what message do you hope to convey to your listeners through your music?

My final message would be to find something you're passionate about. Don’t let the world beat you down because anything is possible!

Interview Snake healer

  1. Can you tell us a bit about how the band got started and how you came up with the concept of being "Monks dedicated to Lord Serpentis Dominus"?

The serpent Lord is the one who brought the knowledge, taught man to question everything and to seek out answers.

Ever since man left the garden we have been following Serpentis Dominus.

Our coven has existed since the beginning of time. We are merely monks dedicated to our Lord's teachings.

  1. How does your spirituality influence your music?

Our connection to the Serpent Lord is everything.

Our purpose, our path, our sacrifice.

Everything we do is in the name of Serpentis Dominus.

  1. What kind of themes do you explore in your music and lyrics?

Our lyrics are given to us by our lord, through sacrifice, meditation and self -flagellation.

Only through loss, pain and suffering. Does one gain experience and knowledge.

  1. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Our music is a dedication to a god who barely perceives our existence. To love something wholeheartedly and to feel the despair of true emptiness.

  1. What are some of your musical influences?

All of our influence comes from our Lord Serpentis Dominus. Our faith is the only influence we need.

  1. You released your Ep last year. Can you tell us about the recording process and what inspired the songs on the album?

The process is very simple. Our Lord whispers into the mind of The Speaker.

And after many dark meditations and other rituals, the music and lyrics are put into the mind and the hands flow.

  1. How has the reception been to your music so far?

Truly, humbling, we are merely monks following our Lord's teachings. To be welcomed by so many other bands and so many people is truly a blessing from the void.

  1. What has been the most memorable moment of your music career so far?

Our 1st show back in 2022 on May 14th. No one knew who we were, yet they flocked to our message and even participated in our unholy communion.

Gloria Domino Nostro Serpentis!

  1. What do you hope listeners take away from your music?

Take All your shame. Lay it on the altar and sacrifice your old self. Shed your skin and join us.

  1. Do you have any upcoming shows or tours planned?

We have many rituals upcoming and secret plans. But I can share this with you, We will be playing Lake Worth Florida in the United States May 6th in support of our good friends, World Eater.

  1. What are your future goals for the band?

We humbly follow the path set before us by our Lord. The Serpent Lord demands that we bring the knowledge to all the children of the world and we obey.

  1. Can you recommend any other doom bands that you think fans of your music would enjoy?

Doom? oh Yes! Iron Buddha, World Eater, Bleeth to name a few.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to our message. We we humbly thank you.
