The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Formed in 2022 by long-time friends Preston Wilson and Alex Valdés, Buried blends doom, thrash, and progressive metal, crafting heavy, intricate music with dark, defiant themes.

1. Buried was formed in 2022 by Preston Wilson and Alex Valdés. Can you share the story of how the band came together and what inspired you to create Buried?

Alex and I have been friends for about 20 years. We met through music and have jammed a little here and there but nothing ever serious. For years now, we’ve been talking about starting a sludge metal band due to our mutual love of Acid Bath, but we just never took that next step. Finally I just started sending Alex some songs, he started adding his shit, and what we were creating was something really unique and special. From there Buried was born. -Preston

2. Ben Rosputni, you reunited with Preston after 15 years to form Buried. How did your previous collaboration influence the dynamic of the band, and what brought you back together?

The experiences in the past I think laid the groundwork for Buried. I’ve known Preston and Alex for a long time and we have definitely seen each other at our more interesting moments. When Preston approached me, it was him and Alex that made me want to do it. -Ben

3. Buried’s sound is a blend of doom, thrash, and progressive metal, drawing inspiration from bands like Black Sabbath, Acid Bath, and Pantera. How do you integrate these diverse influences into your music while maintaining a unique sound?

We just write shit that we like to hear and that we enjoy playing. Every genre has its positives and negatives. Some metal genres are ruined by a particular vocal style, but the music is fantastic, and sometimes it’s the other way around. We aim to bring all the positives together to create something unique. -Preston

4. Your music is described as both heavy and intricate, exploring themes of despair and defiance. Can you elaborate on the lyrical themes and what messages you aim to convey through your music?

I think a lot about the most random situations and scenarios. I think of dark things often and enjoy playing with that aesthetic and those themes. "No Saviors" message is pretty simple. We had our chance and we choked. Nobody is coming to cradle anyone to the afterlife. Burn with dignity or burn with fear. Either way we burn. -Ben

5. Your debut single is set to release on August 14, 2024. What can fans expect from this track, and how does it represent the overall sound of your upcoming EP, 'Infect and Replicate'?

I think the cats out of the bag, as it’s been out for a few weeks now haha. But “No Saviors” really shows the extremes to be expected on Infect and Replicate. From the slow doomy riffs to the fast brutal death metal type riffs toward the end. -Preston

6. 'Infect and Replicate' is scheduled to drop in early 2025. Can you give us a sneak peek into the creative process behind this EP and what listeners can anticipate from it?

The music on Infect and Replicate was written by me, but everyone in the band contributed to each song by bringing their individual style through and altering the song from my original demo. Listeners can anticipate some very dark and sludgy shit that’ll also melt your face. -Preston

7. As seasoned musicians, what does this project mean to each of you personally, and how does it differ from your previous musical endeavors?

Personally for me it’s a second chance at being proud of what I do. I honestly never saw myself getting out there again. The music just hit at the perfect moment for me. It was everything I needed to get off my ass. I have approached Buried from a place of respect for the result. Always open minded. Always ready for constructive criticism. There’s an honesty here that really drops the barriers. -Ben

8. You mentioned that Buried represents a final push to carve out your place in the metal scene. What drives this sense of urgency, and what goals do you hope to achieve with this band?

Well, I’ve started realizing I have to hit the bathroom 30 seconds after I’ve shit my pants. Time must be winding down. -Ben

9. Buried has been gaining recognition in the Phoenix metal scene. How has the local community responded to your music, and how important is the live performance aspect to your band?

Phoenix has been great! Most all of us have been part of the scene for a long time now, but the support on this new project has been really something else. Buried has yet to play out, but we’re going to treat the live performance as another piece of the art. As musicians, we are entertainers, so we‘re not just going to play our music, I mean you could sit at home and just listen to the record if that’s what you wanted, but we’re actually going to put on a show. -Preston

10. Do you have any upcoming live shows or tour plans that fans should be excited about? How do you plan to bring the intensity of your music to the stage?

We’re planning our first run in February with some really great bands. Buried’s music is very emotional and very intense, and we plan to bring that to the stage. We’re currently planning and designing all the lighting and video to really bring a great experience to the fans. -Preston

11. With your debut EP on the horizon, what are your plans for the future? Are there any long-term goals or projects that you’re particularly excited about?

As you mentioned we’re getting pretty close to the release of Infect and Replicate, and we’re going to slowly roll out all the tracks over the next few months. We’re in the process of planning some really cool shows for this EP, and we’re also already working on our next record. -Preston

12. Finally, what message do you want to leave with your fans as you prepare to release your debut single and move forward with Buried?

Stay tuned and follow us on whatever social media platform you prefer. We try to be very active, reach out and let us know your thoughts on our music or just say what’s up, we’ll definitely respond. Our second song is set to release October 11th with an early premiere on October 10th through Decibel Magazine, so keep your eyes open for that. -Preston
