The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

London-based band Carrie Abyss is set to release their debut EP, a powerful blend of alternative metal and industrial music infused with raw emotion and Middle Eastern transgenerational trauma. The band, formed by Istanbul natives Carrie Abyss (vocals), Tibet Tunaboyu (bass), and Tunç Kuzay (guitar), came together with Jonathan Adeyemi (drums) while studying in London. Influenced by artists like Evanescence, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, and Ethel Cain, their sound is as hypercharged as it is caustic, addressing issues of misogyny, queerphobia, and oppressive politics.

Recorded across City and Goldsmiths Universities, and produced by frontwoman Bernadette Lara, the EP encapsulates a young woman's emotional and cultural struggles. Standout track "Mass Destruction (Of My Head)" explores the weight of societal pressures, delivered with haunting synths, heavy guitars, and layered vocals. The EP has already opened doors for the band, including recording sessions at the legendary Abbey Road Studios for their next project.

With gigs across London, including The Old Blue Last, and a multimedia short film accompanying the EP, Carrie Abyss is making waves. As one fan described it: “It’s like I’m watching Buffy on stage!”
