The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Welcome to this exclusive interview with the band Screams of Desolation, a rising star in the world of black and death metal. Formed just a year ago, the band has quickly gained a following with its unique blend of genres, combining the intensity of death metal with the haunting melodies of black metal. The band's founder and main creative force, Vita Mortis, has been a black metal artist since the beginning, but he now sees a different direction for his music. In this interview, we'll dive into the creative process behind Screams of Desolation's music, the inspiration behind Vita Mortis' lyrics, and the band's plans for the future. So, without further ado, let's hear from Vita Mortis himself about his vision for the band's sound, and his passion for music that drives him forward.

  1. Can you tell us about how the band Screams of Desolation came to be formed?

Music gave me purpose in life, before I recorded my first album, I was in a dark place but music was there to express those feelings. I formed the band around the ideas of mental illness and the effects it takes on a person.

  1. How has your experience been as a black metal artist, and what led you to shift towards incorporating death metal elements into your music?

Black metal for me is something spiritual. I will always listen and be part of black metal but recently, I’ve thought about changing that. Death metal comes with heavier guitars and different ideas behind the music for me. The balance between the two styles is where I’m comfortable and where I see screams of desolation moving forward to.

  1. Can you describe the creative process behind your music composition and songwriting?

I usually start with drums. Once I get the drums recorded, I move on to guitars and that’s really where the song is built. Vocals can take me longer sometimes, but it’s always last to be recorded.

  1. What themes and topics do your lyrics explore in your music?

The topics of my life experiences. The topics of death, hate, revenge, and anger.

  1. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your music?

Right off hand, the Swedish Death Metal band Grave has been an influence.  I have a huge love for the early days of deathcore as well. The second wave of black metal influenced me more than anything.

  1. How would you describe your live performances, and what can audiences expect from a Screams of Desolation show?

I don’t ever see myself performing live, I’m much more comfortable recording in my room away from the world.

  1. How has the music scene in South Alabama influenced your music, and what are some challenges you've faced as a musician in the area?

There are almost no metal places down here, it’s basically country music and rap places. So not much opportunity for a one man metal band around here.

  1. Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or releases for Screams of Desolation?

I’m working on a new album that will be out in the next couple months. I’ve released a single along with a lyric video until the album is ready.

  1. How has your music evolved over the past year since the band's formation, and where do you see it heading in the future?

I’ve gained experience with the music world more. I’ve been meeting really cool people who have helped me out tremendously. I see it going into a bigger direction with the new music. This could be the chance to grow as an independent artist in a huge world of music.

  1. Can you share any memorable moments or experiences that have occurred during your time as a musician?

I’ve been thankful to have some great fans. Without the people who listen to my music, I’m nothing and my music can’t grow. So thank you to everyone for the support!

  1. Lastly, what message do you hope to convey to your listeners through your music?

My final message would be to find something you're passionate about. Don’t let the world beat you down because anything is possible!
