Interview Fab Manzini

Embark on a journey with Fab Manzini as he discusses the creation of his debut album, 'Chapter One,' weaving themes of hope, resilience, and musical diversity.

1. Congratulations on the release of your debut album, "Chapter One"! Can you tell us about the journey of creating this album and what inspired you to embark on this project?

Thank you, Chapter One was inspired by the times that we live in. I have had the concept of it for several years; I wanted to create a positive and hopeful message. To inspire the listener to be an overcomer.

2. Your album showcases a diverse range of musical styles, from energetic hard rockers to atmospheric instrumental pieces. How did you approach crafting such a varied sonic landscape, and what were some of the challenges and rewards of blending these different elements together?

My musical diversity stems from all the different musical inspirations that I grew up with. Artists like, Mike Oldfield, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Joe Satriani, Styx, Yes. And, I also like movie soundtracks with the lush productions.

3. "Chapter One" features a talented lineup of musicians, including yourself on guitars and orchestration, Marcello Viera on vocals, and others. How did you go about selecting and collaborating with these artists, and how did their contributions shape the overall sound of the album?

The line-up for Chapter One was a challenge in itself. Les Dan Hall my drummer and long-time friend and I, embarked on this journey several years ago. Trying to nail down the recording process. I was looking at various singers who could translate the message that I wrote with conviction and excellence. Marcello Vieira is just awesome and knows exactly what I was looking for. As you will see I used several different bass players, this was done intentionally. To see if the bass had much of an impact in the dynamics of the songs.
4. Your music has been described as melodic hard rock with symphonic elements. Can you elaborate on your creative process when incorporating orchestration into your compositions, and how do you believe it enhances the listening experience for your audience?

Firstly, I believe a song needs to be melodic, does not matter what style it is. I use orchestration to enhance the overall experience of the song. Just like when you are watching a movie with a great soundtrack, it enhances the moment with emotion.

5. The album opener, "More Than Heroes," sets the tone with its catchy melody and atmospheric rock sound. Can you walk us through the inspiration behind this track and how it reflects the themes explored throughout "Chapter One"?

More Than Heroes was chosen for the opening track, because it sets the mood for the album. Inspirational and catchy it gets your attention from the start.
6. Your guitar work is a standout feature of the album, particularly on tracks like "In This Moment" and "Power And Passion." What influences and experiences have shaped your approach to playing the guitar, and how do you strive to express emotion and energy through your instrument?

My guitar work stems from all the experience that I have gained over the years. My emphasis is firstly on expressing my emotions through the guitar. It is a tool that I use to convey my message. I love all the greats like Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen but it’s not all about the guitar. The song has to stand on its own merits; the guitar work is an added bonus.
7. "Flight Of The Eagle" and its second movement showcase intricate guitar-led compositions with cinematic atmospheres. Can you delve into the storytelling aspect of these pieces and how you use music to evoke imagery and emotions in your listeners?

Flight of the Eagle, is a two part song. The 1st Movement represents the marching of an army to a battle field. As the song finishes with the female choir, the battle starts with the introduction of the main song. Music can convey an image and I strive to achieve this with every note and beat played.
8. As both a guitarist and a composer, how do you balance technical proficiency with emotional depth in your music, especially on tracks like "Forgiven," where the focus is on creating a deeply resonant atmosphere?

As a guitarist and composer, the battle is real. The guitarist side wants to play as fast as I can full of sweeps and tricks, But, the composer in me wants to keep it simple .I think that I have achieved a balance with Chapter One.

9. "Save Me" stands out as a passionate AOR/Melodic ballad on the album. What inspired the lyrical content of this track, and how do you believe the combination of heartfelt vocals and majestic musicianship contributes to its impact?

Save me, is a cry for help. When I wrote the song, I knew it was going to be a powerful moving piece. With the growing rate of mental health issues, people are in need of salvation. I hope this song can help them on their journey towards inner peace.
10. Your album title, "Chapter One," suggests the beginning of a larger narrative. Can you provide insight into the thematic arc or story that connects the songs on this album, and do you envision continuing this narrative in future releases?

I called the album Chapter One, because even though it is not my first recording, it is the first chapter in my story. The first time that I actually told my message the way that I envisioned. Not sure, what is install for the future, but, time will tell.
11. COVID-19 and its effects on the world served as a backdrop for the creation of "Chapter One." How did this global context influence your creative process and the themes explored in your music?

Yes, the album started with Covid-19. I think it did for a lot of musicians. It gave me the time to focus on my music and direction. During that time I also recorded a track with Billy Sheehan [Lost without you]. Billy later recommended Producer Scott Bush from Timeline Studios Nashville, which did all the songs except Run the race to win
12. Your love for music is evident, but you also have interests in motorsports and home renovation. How do these diverse passions inform and influence your musical endeavors, if at all?

[ Benedikt Hain] from Germany. I guess during that time there was a lot of soul searching.

13. Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future of Fab Manzini Music? Do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're particularly excited about?

My other passions include motorsports and renovations. Renovations help me to unwind, and create something just like music does.
